An Overview

Fast forward a couple of years after my first buck and I had shot a few does, a few bucks, and have understood what it is like to wait, struggle, be frustrated, and embrace the challenge that whitetail hunting brings to the table.

  • 2013 – 9-point (1st deer)
  • 2014 – Doe & 6-point buck (same day)
  • 2015 – 7-point buck
  • 2016 – Nothing
  • 2017 – Doe
  • 2018 – Doe (First Bow Kill)
  • 2019 – Buck (First Buck with a Bow)
  • 2020 – Nothing (awful year all around LOL)
  • 2021 – Missed what would be my biggest buck to date
  • 2022 – Shot a Doe (Bow)

That is a brief preview of my ‘hunting career’. See, I am no pro at this stuff; however, I can look back at all of my hunts and encounters from when I was younger and start to learn from them.

I truly believe that hard work pays off; nevertheless, the work has to be smart as well. That is why I started The Whitetail Teacher.

I want to equip hunters with the best knowledge that I can on how to get more shot opportunities, fill more tags, and create more life-long memories.

I focus on easy and simple strategies that will give you the best foundation for your deer hunting. As I develop and get better at hunting, I will start to dive into more complex strategies.

That is the beauty of whitetail deer hunting. You should always be learning from your experiences and other people. It is a constant growing process and it never gets old.

Currently, I am striving to shoot only mature bucks. For the past two years, I have passed on many smaller bucks in hopes of a mature buck. That is where I am at in my whitetail journey.

Now that you know more about me and my ‘hunting career’, I would like to share a little bit more about how The Whitetail Teacher started and a few of the core values.

The Whitetail Teacher

Here at The Whitetail Teacher, my mission is to help as many hunters as I can fill more tags and create life-long memories with friends and family. This simple 3 step plan will be the foundation for your continued growth and success as a whitetail deer hunter.

  1. Learn – Consume knowledge that will help you become a better hunter
  2. Plan – Take that knowledge and apply it to your property and hunting style.
  3. Execute – Put that plan into action. Make that shot count during the season.

This is my model at The Whitetail Teacher. It is simple, clear, and easy to put into practice.

I will be providing you with as much information and personal experience as I can as I will take you from feeling lost, frustrated, and still having empty tags to a consistent hunter that fills tags and creates great memories. If you put in the work, you deserve just that.

(Obviously, nothing is perfect and some years just suck. I will tell you a secret, that is part of hunting. Embrace the challenge!)

What The Whitetail Teacher Is Not

The Whitetail Teacher is not about showing off the biggest bucks. Because the reality is that not every hunting area or habitat is made equal. I do not always shoot big bucks.

Michigan is not as prone to growing as big deer as other states such as Kansas and Iowa. Nevertheless, I am always on the chase to shoot the most mature bucks on the properties that I hunt. That is the goal of my hunting strategy.

To shoot more mature bucks and help the deer herd and deer habitat. Not just ‘shoot a monster 12-point buck.’

Who is The Whitetail Teacher

My name is Logan Petzold, I am an 18-year-old entrepreneur and whitetail fanatic. I started The Whitetail Teacher in late July 2021.

I am always trying to grow my knowledge, criticize my hunting plans, and then adjust my plans. I would love for you to join me on this journey of growth and execution.

I have taken hunting more seriously in the past 2 years and it has become a true obsession for me to always improve.

I started my entrepreneurial journey when I was just 16 years old. I was working for a landscaping company and on the side, I started my own lawn mowing company that I would run after my 8-hour days working.

At age 17, I switched to working at a private golf course as a bag boy and cart boy. However, my lawn mowing business did not stop. I grew that from a 4-lawn per week to a 16-lawn per week business. I did this through the fall of 2021.

In July, I decided I needed to chase my dream and make it a reality. With that, I started The Whitetail Teacher and have been trying to provide you guys with the best possible information.

At age 18, I stopped working at the golf course. I scaled my lawn mowing business to 22 lawns a week and took The Whitetail Teacher more seriously.

If you also would like to continue to grow your whitetail knowledge, join me and others to continue learning how you can become a better hunter and fill more tags!
