The best hunting chair in my opinion is the one that allows you to sit by the campfire next to all your hunting friends and family, drink beer, tell stories, and possibly never make it into the woods in the morning. That is a great chair!

All jokes aside, a good hunting chair varies based on what type of hunting style you enjoy. This article is a big breakdown of all the different aspects, variations, and price points you should look at when choosing the best hunting chair for you.

Best Hunting Chairs for Each Style of Hunting

Ameristep High-Back Blind Chair – Folding

The Ameristrap High-Back Blind Chair is one of those chairs that is compact, lightweight, and very easy to haul around. I do own one of these seats and have had absolutely no issues with it. Now, I do not think that you could fall asleep in this chair but I see that as a good thing because you should not be sleeping during the hunt anyway.

Overall this folding chair would be a great option for those of you that have multiple blinds but do not want to buy 5 different chairs. You can just take this with you each time you go to a new blind or stand and use it when needed. That is my favorite part of this hunting chair.

ALPS OutdoorZ Stealth Hunter – Swivel

The ALPS OutdoorZ Stealth Hunter Chair would be the chair I would want if I had any sort of ground blinds or wooden treestands. This thing is extremely comfortable for longer sits, it rotates effortlessly left and right, and it also has removable armrests. If I am going to be hunting the rut all day, I would want this chair to keep me comfortable.

The other major feature that I like is the legs of the hunting chair. Each leg has a stopper that will help the chair from sinking into the softer ground and handling uneven terrain. Overall a great choice for a hunting chair.

The only negative I see is the price tag is a little out of my range just for a chair.

PORTAL Extra Larger Tripod Stool – Tripod

The PORTAL Extra Large Tripod Stool is one of those hunting chairs that you can take anywhere in the woods with you. It covers all the basics of a good chair. It is comfortable, sturdy, and lightweight.

The main difference that sets this hunting chair out from the rest is the extra side pockets that it offers to hold additional gear. You get so much in a chair for not that much in price. I would recommend this hunting chair for smaller people as it will be a favorite for moving around without compromising comfortability.

BOG ChairPod Hunting Rest – With Gun Rest

The BOG ChairPod Hunting Rest is one of the coolest-looking chairs on the market. You get so much more than just shooting sticks. You get an entire shooting rest with this chair. You can use it to sight in your gun, then just take it and put it out in your hunting blind.

This hunting chair offers a ton of versatility with adjustments both to the seat and to the gun rest. I also always appreciate it when a hunting chair has a larger foot ending to avoid sinkage and add extra stability on unlevel ground. The last bonus to this hunting chair is that it swivels in a complete 360 degrees to make your shot happen from anywhere. The only thing I could not get an exact measurement on was the weight of the ChairPod. My guess would that it is heavier because of the added gun rest.

Browning Camping Strutter MC Chair – Low Ground

The Browning Camping Strutter MC Chair should be any serious turkey or ground hunter’s go-to chair. It allows you to get low and tucked away into spots that are harder to get to with a normal chair. Other benefits are that it comes with a travel bag and strap, and a strap that connects right to the chair if you would like to avoid using the bag in the woods.

I personally do more of my hunting from a treestand but I could see how this hunting chair could be the perfect tool for a ground hunter. I would not recommend this with any sort of box blind or pop-up blind because you will be too low to see out of your shooting windows.

The Best Budget Hunting Chairs

REDCAMP Camo Chair – Folding

The REDCAMP Camo Chair is one of those chairs that you can bring out to the woods and have no doubts about it falling apart. The quality of this chair is amazing because it is made with kitchen tube steel. It is able to hold up to 330 pounds comfortably.

Another major reason that I think this chair is a win-win is the fact that it comes with a traveling carrier. Any hunter knows that the fewer things you have to put in your hands, the more efficient you are in the field.

There is so much more to this chair at such a low price.

HAWK Stealth Spin Chair – Swivel

The HAWK Stealth Spin Chair is a great option for all blind hunters. It offers an effortless 360-degree spin. Another feature I think is really nice is that the chair has a mesh seat which allows your body to get some air on those early-season hunts.

The structure of this hunting chair is sturdy and made with high-quality steel. It also folds up for a nice compact travel method and comes with a travel sling for your walks into and out of the woods.

I had only known HAWK for their treestands but this chair is a true testament that they want everyone to “Hunt From Above!”

BOG Low Profile – Tripod

The BOG Loe Profile hunting chair tripod is a great option for those of you that could care less if your seat is camo. It hold up nicely in the woods and had extra seat room for added comfort on the long days in the woods. This is not the tripod chair that I use. However, if I had to go buy a new one, I would buy this and save myself the extra 5 dollars.

This hunting chair comes with a travel strap for easy carry and a bag for reducing the amount of noise you make while walking into and out of the woods.

BenchMaster BMGBSC2 – Gun Rest

The BenchMaster BMGBSC2 is a lower-quality seat. However, the price you pay is lower as well. It comes with a smaller seat, the ability to swivel 360 degrees, and an okay gun rest. I feel like this chair would work well for me for up to about 2 hours. After that point, I think I would just get uncomfortable.

If this is something that you want to leave in a blind, I would rather go with a nicer chair and shooting sticks. Nevertheless, this is a good option for those that are doing shorter sits and want to just have a seat and gun rest all in one product. Just does not look like my cup of tea.

Guide Gear Magnum Turkey Hunting Chair – Low Ground

This Guide Gear Magnum Turkey Hunting Chair is a great budget chair for all of the gun hunters out there. When you want to tuck into a tight spot or sit in some tall grass overlooking a field, this chair is going to help you stay comfortable and hidden. It is also a great height to use some shooting sticks with that will help you steady your aim that much more to ensure a lethal shot.

I think another notable feature is the way it folds up and allows you to move easily with this chair. Ultimately a great low-to-the-ground, budget, hunting chair for gun hunters. I would not use this for archery personally, but I am sure someone has done it and found success.

Why the Best Hunting Chair Matters for You

It does not matter if you are 5’5” or 6’4”, you need the correct type of hunting chair. Each type of chair will serve you a different purpose as you want to have the most comfortable and effective hunt.

There are a few things you will need to ask yourself before you continue reading.

  1. What style of hunting do I normally use?
  2. Do I like to have plenty of room and comfort?
  3. Do I need my hunting chair to be able to quietly swing in all directions?

All of these questions are a great starting point when you are thinking of getting a new hunting chair. Without recognizing how you hunt, how can you ever choose the best product for you?

Now let’s dive into the best hunting chair based on categories.

Different Kinds of Hunting Chairs

  • Folding

A folding chair is a standard feature that all these hunting chairs have. However, how nicely they fold, how quiet it is to carry them in and out of the woods, and the weight of these hunting chairs matter.

A great folding chair should have at least 2 if not 3 of these topics covered for it to be even considered a good hunting chair. I personally like folding chairs for ground blinds and any blind that is looking over a field that will not require you to rotate the hunting chair.

  • Swivel

A hunting chair that is on a swivel is amazing for in the woods or in the middle of a field set up. These chairs allow you to move 360 degrees at any time. However, these hunting chairs can be harder than even the folding chairs to move and always be carrying.

Swivel chairs tend to be a bit more heavy and bulky to carry into the woods. You may also have a hard time transporting them in a quiet way. I would put this chair in a hunting spot and leave it there to avoid the hassle.

  • Tripod

A tripod hunting chair is a chair that only has 3 legs. They are used primarily for sitting on the ground or in a deadfall of trees where you want to have the option to sit down. I own a tripod chair and have used it many times to tuck myself into a deadfall. Since they are smaller hunting chairs, they are more lightweight and easier to carry in and out of the woods.

  • With a Gun Rest

Now for all of my bow hunters that are looking for a new hunting chair, this chair is not for you. BUT for all my gun hunters out there, this may be the perfect option for you to become more efficient in the field.

A hunting chair that has a gun rest really only has one major aspect that differentiates itself from the other chairs. That is that you no longer need to bring shooting sticks to the woods.

You can just have your chair already set up in your blind or you can set it up after you walk in. But these types of chairs eliminate some of that extra gear that you otherwise have to bring out.

I think these types of chairs are great for pre-determined hunting spots that are in a ground blind or box blind.

  • Low to the Ground

I will not lie to you guys, I did not even know such a chair existed that was 6 inches from the ground. However, I thought about all the turkey hunters out there and it made perfect sense. A low chair that is comfortable for you to call turkeys in would help a lot of guys with back issues, ants, or anything else that would be a reason to avoid sitting on the ground.

I even know a spot that has been great for shooting deer that I would have liked to have a super low hunting chair. I would normally just sit directly on the ground. However, my legs would get cold, I would become uncomfortable and want to move. These low hunting chairs can be used for certain deer hunting situations and turkey hunting.

How do you know which Hunting Chair is Best for You?

Hunting Chair

I just talked through many different types of hunting chairs and how they can be best used from my own experiences and personal opinion. So, now that you know what kind of hunting spots you like to use, then you should be able to pick a good hunting chair for you based on reading through all of the different hunting chair reviews.

Types of hunting chairs for each type of hunting

These are just quick little mentions of what I think the best style of hunting chair would work for you based on what you are hunting and how you are hunting.

Turkey

I would go with a low hunting chair if I was going to be turkey hunting. These chairs allow you to tuck into small and well-hidden spots that otherwise you would not be able to. All while staying off the ground where insects can climb all over you.

Deer

If you are hunting deer, different chairs will work for you. Just to generalize the entire category of deer hunting, I would probably go with a swivel chair. This will give you the ability to move 360 degrees, stay a little mobile, stay comfortable, and hopefully if you find the right spot stay hidden as well.

Blinds

If I am a gun hunter in a blind of any sort, I would go with a gun rest hunting chair. Makes it super easy to get in there and be set up in no time. It also allows your entire body to help stabilize your gun rest.

If you hunt with a bow out of a blind, I would go with your simple folding chair. These chairs are light, comfortable, and can be moved whenever you want.

 Spot and Stalk

If you are going to spot and stalk any sort of wild game and you need to have a chair, get one of the ultra-light, super small, and extremely portable tripod hunting chairs. That is what I use whenever I am trying something new and I have loved every part of that hunting chair.

Conclusion

A good hunting chair is crucial to having a comfortable hunt. A hunt that will be enjoyable and you will be consistently excited to go hunting. As you think about which hunting chair will be right for you, understand your own style of hunting and how you would utilize each chair that you purchase.

I hope this guide helped you understand a little bit more about chairs and how they can be utilized to help you succeed in the woods.
